‘Inspirational Business Mum of the Year 2008’ Nominee
Sharon Ward, Teddy & Me, Kenilworth
Sharon Ward (aged 36), who is mum to four-year-old Louis, has been nominated for the Prowess ‘Inspirational Business Mum of the Year’ award by her good friend and colleague Karen Ridgway.
Karen believes that Sharon fits the bill for the Yell.com sponsored accolade as she launched a business at the start of the year designed to help the many mums who have premature, poorly or low weight babies while maintaining her regular job (she works from 6pm -11pm, Monday to Thursday).
Sharon was enthused to set up the business after getting involved with local charity ADAPT (Charity no. 1080112), which supports parents of premature and poorly babies. She found that many mums struggled to find suitable well-fitting clothes for their low weight babies and wanted to help alleviate the problem.
Sharon was also keen to help the many parents who lose their babies through prematurity and stillbirth, by creating resting garments for babies weighing less than 8lbs (3.5kg).
After spending eighteen months carrying out extensive research speaking to paediatricians, neonatal specialists and parents. Sharon’s clothing range was born.
Great care has been taken to ensure that every garment offers maximum comfort, allows for ease of dressing and more importantly takes into consideration the tubes and monitors the babies may have attached.
Every item is made from cotton rich fabric and is manufactured in the United Kingdom.
Karen says: “With all her determination, drive and passion, Sharon is a real inspiration to all the business mums out there. The company is a real credit to her.”
Nominations for the Prowess ‘Inspirational Business Mum of the Year’ award, which is being sponsored by Yell.com, the online service from Yellow Pages, must be submitted before Friday, April 11, 2008 at www.bizmums.yell.com. Friends and family can nominate mums (as happened in Sharon’s case), though mums are also more than welcome to enter themselves.
